The Value of Peace

November 5, 2020

What can be compared to the acquisition of divine peace? What earthly possession or soulish gain can match the value of peace?

Jesus had (and has) something to say about this:

“Peace I leave with you; My [own] peace I now give and bequeath to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. [Stop allowing yourselves to be agitated and disturbed; and do not permit yourselves to be fearful and intimidated and cowardly and unsettled.]” (John 14:27 AMP)

Notice, in this passage, that there is an act of the will involved. We have the ability to not let [or disallow] troubles from gaining a grip on our hearts. In life, troubles come, but they don’t have to latch onto our inner state of being.

“I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace and confidence. In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]” (John 16:33 AMP)

The conscious mind can choose not to brood over troubles, albeit counterintuitively; it’s mostly the opposite tendency that the thinking mechanism uses to operate. On mental autopilot, our conscious minds are automatically preoccupied with the external stimuli, news and information that reaches our senses. Yet, with a little intention and much grace, we can redirect our attention onto a visualized condition of well-being. This redirecting of our mental energy is actually a function of our spiritual being which is able to steer the ship of our lives from a higher level. A watchful spiritual eye enables our mental armory to stay posted on the wall, securing the ranks of our inner dwelling. And yet, much of this activity is an interplay between the conscious and subconscious minds, our worldview and our spiritual outlook.

Choosing to believe these words of Jesus engages these aspects of our being and gets them working on our behalf to produce God’s blessing in our lives.

Let this be your prayer today, as you allow God’s peace to rain upon the cracked soil of your life:

“Lord, through your abundance of grace, and my intention to let your grace in, fill my life with your peace. Fill me with a peace that passes natural understanding. Fill me with divine peace that transcends my situations and helps me to be rooted and grounded in Spirit, regardless of what goes on around me. In you, I am whole. Amen.”
